NESA strives to ensure students in NSW reach their highest potential at school. The 2016–2017 annual report highlights NESA's goals, and how they've been achieved in the last year.
Achievements include:
- Commencing a thematic review of writing – providing strategic leadership to improve the standard of education in NSW.
- Improving NSW performance in NAPLAN, PISA and TIMMS – commissioning the Australian Council for Education Research to help understand and review the differences between these tests.
- Implementing Stronger HSC Standards reforms – developing new syllabuses and minimum literacy and numeracy tests to improve outcomes for students in NSW.
