This review examines the academic outcomes of children who have been home schooled by analysis of results in statewide assessments such as the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests, School Certificate and Higher School Certificate.
The major reviews of the research literature note major shortcomings, including the lack of quantitative studies and the self-selection of participants. These reviews have tentatively concluded that home educated children have achieved at a level at least equivalent to the average achievement of students who attend school.
