Online gaming can be fun but what to do when it leads to abuse and threats. Know how to report and seek help.

Multiplayer gaming can be awesome.
But sometimes not everyone is playing by the same rules. If you experience cyberbullying or personal threats when gaming, talk to a trusted friend or family member.

If you or someone you know has been bullied online, there is support available. You can report it directly to the online platform. However, if that doesn't work, eSafety can assist.

The eSafety Commissioner provides information and advice on safe gaming. Multi-player online games can be a great way to relax, unwind and connect with friends and family. Research from the eSafety Commissioner shows that:
- online multiplayer gaming is a very popular activity for young Australians, with 6 in 10 young people aged 8 to 17 having played these games
- nearly 1 in 2 young people have played eSport video games
- estimated 17% of multiplayer gamers have experienced in-game bullying.
Overcome challenges with online gaming
- Ensure you check the game classifications and age restrictions for a particular game.
- Keep private information private. Pick a username that is not your name. Base it on your interests or hobbies instead. Do not post your full name, date of birth, address for others to se.
- Check your paid subsciptions. Purchases can add up very quickly. Be aware of online gambling.
- Take time off gaming.
- Talk to a trusted adult, school counsellor or get help from other services.
