In this guide, we explain who can apply for a disability parking permit.

A disability parking permit lets someone use car parks that are saved for people with disability.

In this guide, we call them permits.

Who can apply for a permit

  • move your body
  • see.

You can apply for a permit on your own.

You can also ask someone to apply for a permit for you.

What you need to apply for a permit

A medical report from a doctor.

You must get a medical report from your doctor that includes information about your disability.

When you ask your doctor for a medical report, they will check how well you can:

  • move your body
  • see.

For example, they will check:

Doctor is looking at patients eye
  • if you are blind or have low vision
A doctor checking how well a patient moves their leg.
  • how well you can move your legs
A doctor checking how well a man can walk.
  • how easily you can walk 100 metres.
A doctor and patient are sitting in a consult room discussing tools the patient may need.

They will also check if you need support to move around. 

For example, if you use a wheelchair or a walking stick.
