In this guide, we explain who can apply for a disability parking permit.
A disability parking permit lets someone use car parks that are saved for people with disability.
In this guide, we call them permits.
Who can apply for a permit
You must meet certain rules to apply for a permit.
For example, you must have a disability or injury that affects how well you can:
- move your body
- see.
You can apply for a permit on your own.
You can also ask someone to apply for a permit for you.
For example, a family member or friend.
You can find out more about how to apply for a permit on our Apply for a disability parking permit page.
What you need to apply for a permit
You must get a medical report from your doctor that includes information about your disability.
When you ask your doctor for a medical report, they will check how well you can:
- move your body
- see.
For example, they will check:
- if you are blind or have low vision
- how well you can move your legs
- how easily you can walk 100 metres.
They will also check if you need support to move around.
For example, if you use a wheelchair or a walking stick.
Your doctor will let you know if you can apply for a permit.
