What is a GPS anchor?
A GPS anchor is a function included on some motors and/or vessels that use GPS technology to hold a boat in a specific on-water location. Examples of GPS anchors include the Spot-Lock, Geo-Spot and Sky-Anchor.
Use on NSW waters
GPS anchors are not considered to be anchors under the marine legislation and therefore cannot be substituted for an anchor, nor be seen to meet any regulatory requirement that requires anchorage.
GPS anchors may be used at the discretion of the craft operator. However, it is not a suitable replacement for an anchor.
