New Years Eve Fireworks Display

Special event

Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held over the waters of Kiama Harbour and the Tasman Sea from 7.00pm to 11.00pm on Sunday, 31 December 2024. 

Exclusion zone

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Transport for NSW has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to Fireworks Australia Pty Ltd to conduct the event and an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of Kiama Harbour and the Tasman Sea between the above times.

The display will be staged from land adjacent to the Kiama break wall on the northern side of Kiama Harbour, and the Zone will extend for a radius of 200 metres around the display.

No unauthorised persons or vessels (i.e. vessels that are not already lawfully moored in the Zone) may enter the Zone between the specified times which will be monitored by event personnel.

In addition, pursuant to section 12(3) of the Marine Safety Act 1998, for the duration of the event, Special Restrictions are imposed on vessels that are lawfully moored within the Zone as follows:

• Vessels lawfully moored within the Zone must remain at their moorings and must not be operated during the event.

Directions

Transport for NSW advises that in relation to the exclusion zone:

• Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00). 
• No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00).
