New 4 knot Speed Limit Zone
Where
When
- Monday, 11 December 2023
Vessel operators are advised that a new four (4) knot speed limit zone for all powered vessel operations will be introduced on the Murray River adjacent to Deep Lagoon (Deep Creek), at Moama as per the diagram commencing Monday, 11 December 2023.
New speed limit zone
The new 4 knot speed limit zone on the Murray River commences downstream of the moored vessels at Bakers Run Marina to a point approximately 150 metres upstream of the entrance to Deep Lagoon. The length of the new 4 knot zone is approximately 500 metres. It is expected that it will take four (4) minutes to transit the zone at the new speed limit.
This amendment to vessel operating conditions is aimed at minimising the impacts of powered vessel operations on waterside land, associated infrastructure and moored vessels and to enhance safety and amenity in this stretch of the waterway. The new zone will also seek to ensure the safety of vessel operators utilising the publicly available pump out facility located within the zone and protect the environment during associated transfer operations.
New signage to mark the zone has been installed and vessel operators are advised to navigate with caution when familiarising themselves with the new speed restricted area.
Directions
Vessel operators within the zone must comply with the 4 knot speed limit as indicated by the signage. Failure to comply with any such notice is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.11(4)(b) - Maximum Penalty $1,100.00).
