Where
When
- Commencing January 2024 continuing progressively until December 2025.
Special Event
Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held on Hunter River, upstream of the existing Hexham bridges (as per the diagram).
The event is the construction of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension viaduct bridge.
Exclusion zone
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation Transport for NSW will establish an exclusion zone (“the Zone”) on the navigable waters of Hunter River, upstream of the existing Hexham bridges (as per the attached diagram) between the above dates. The Zone will be marked by yellow buoys and lights at night. Authorised work vessels operating within the zone during work hours will be marked with rotating amber lights. A navigation channel indicated by port (red) and starboard (green) buoys that will be lit at night, will be in place for the duration of the works to allow vessels to transit through the area at all times.
Vessel operators are advised that a 4 knot speed restriction applies approximately 200 metres both upstream and downstream of the work area. Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and to pay particular attention to construction work vessels, barges, anchoring cables, lighting & day shapes and any regulatory or advisory signage. This navigation restriction and warning remains in place for the duration of the works.

Transport for NSW advises that in relation to the exclusion zone:

- No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00).
