Newcastle Harbour sand dredging and Stockton Beach nourishment
Where
When
- Saturday, 14 October for approximately 30 days (weather dependent)
The Works
Vessel operators are advised that as part of the Stockton Amenity Nourishment Placement Plan, NSW Public Works will be undertaking sand dredging work on the Hunter River in the vicinity of Newcastle Harbour. Associated sand relocation operations will be undertaken on the Tasman Sea east of Stockton Beach.
The works will commence on Saturday, 14 October 2023 and continue for approximately 30 days (dates may vary due to weather conditions) operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Navigation Advice
The works will be conducted by the trailing suction dredge "TRUD R” (‘the vessel’) which will dredge sand deposits in the vicinity of Newcastle Harbour. The dredged material will then be transferred to Stockton Beach nearshore deposition sites. The vessel will display appropriate day shapes and lights at night and can be contacted on VHF16 if required.
Vessel operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works, to operate at a reduced speed so as to create minimal wash and maintain a safe distance from the works.
Directions
Persons within the vicinity of the Works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
