Windang Bridge pier rectification works
Where
When
The works
Vessel operators are advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking pier rectification works on the Windang Bridge, which spans Lake Illawarra, from Thursday 3 August 2023 until Sunday 1 December 2024.
Exclusion zone
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Transport for NSW has declared an exclusion zone which will be established on the navigable waters of Lake Illawarra, Windang, from Thursday 3 August 2023 until Sunday 1 December 2024. The zone will be marked by on water signage and yellow special mark aqua buoys with flashing yellow lights displayed between dusk and dawn.
This exclusion zone extends a further 30 metres around any active barge or associated works.
Navigation restriction
To facilitate the required bridge works, affected bridge spans will be temporarily closed to navigation and will be marked by channel blocked markers, localised buoyage and signage.
All vessel operators and persons using the waters specified above should navigate with caution, keep a proper lookout, comply with all markers, buoyage and signage and minimise wash when navigating near the works.
The bridge span containing the marked navigation channel will not be impacted by these works.
Directions
Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – clause 11(2) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00).
Vessels are required to comply with all signage and buoyage. Failure to comply is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s 11(4) – Maximum Penalty $5,500 in relation to wash and $1,100 for any other case).
Vessels and persons are required to remain beyond 30 metres of the site. Failure to comply is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016, cl 30(1) – Maximum Penalty $5,500.00).
