The Works
Transport for NSW advises that the Department of Planning and Environment have deployed wave measuring apparatus consisting of two small solar powered wave buoys with flashing orange and yellow lights deployed on Thursday 8 February 2024 into the Coral Sea at Byron Bay and Belongil.
This notice is in addition to and in conjunction with Marine Notice NH2336
Navigation Advice
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Transport for NSW advises vessel operators to navigate with care whilst operating on the navigable waters of the Coral Sea at Byron Bay and Belongil when in the vicinity of the wave measuring devices.
The wave measuring devices will be removed during the whale migration season and redeployed once the migration season is over.
This navigation advise remains in place until further notice.
Directions
Transport for NSW advises that in relation to the works:
- Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety.
- Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- Vessels are required to travel at a safe speed and maintain a safe distance from the works.
