How to display your mobility parking permits
Make sure you display your NSW mobility parking permit together with your Australian disability parking permit.
Displaying your permit
To ensure you comply with the conditions of use for your permit, you must display both your:
- NSW Mobility Parking Scheme permit – looks like a driver licence, and
- Australian Disability Parking permit – large purple card.
Australian Disability Parking Permit
When you apply for a Mobility Parking Scheme permit in NSW, you’ll also be issued an Australian Disability Parking Permit that applies in all states and territories.
There is no additional charge for the Australian permit.
Attaching permits to a car
In NSW you need to display both the Australian Disability Parking Permit (large purple card) and your NSW Mobility Parking Scheme permit (licence-style card).
Insert your NSW permit into the clear sleeve of the Australian Disability Parking Permit. This holder ensures your permit is accepted nationally, as outlined below.
The back of the card should be facing out, so your personal details and photo cannot be seen.
Your permit should be displayed clearly on the left hand or passenger side of your car. This is so it can be easily and safely read by enforcement officers. If this isn’t practical, place it in an area where it can be seen from outside the vehicle.
Make sure the side marked ‘Display this side’ is always showing when in use. The permit must not block the driver’s vision while the car is in motion.
You can use a suction cup or any other method you prefer to attach the permit to the windscreen or any other surface.
Attaching a permit to a motorcycle or other open-style vehicle
Your permit should be displayed so that it is in a position where it can be seen clearly.
Make sure the side marked ‘Display this side’ is always showing.
The permit can be fixed permanently to the vehicle for security purposes.
Your permit will show the number plate and should only be fixed to the vehicle bearing this number plate.
Additional permit
You can be issued with an additional permit if you have registered in your name an open-style vehicle – such as a convertible, motorcycle or motor tricycle – in addition to a standard vehicle, such as a sedan.
This allows you to permanently fix one permit to the open-style vehicle for security purposes and carry the other permit in the usual way.
