Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge will receive $415,000 in funding to upgrade local health facilities while Condobolin and Tullamore will receive $460,000, as part of the NSW Government's $12 million investment into 61 projects as part of the program.
The Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge Multipurpose Services (MPS) will share a $245,000 allocation to improve security in and around key healthcare worker accommodation. Work at these sites will include installing CCTV, and improving fencing and external lighting.
This funding boost will help WNSWLHD attract and retain staff at both Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge MPS’ by providing secure accommodation for staff close to work.
The Lightning Ridge MPS will also receive $170,000 to refurbish an outdoor area used by aged care residents to create a relaxed and comfortable environment using dementia design principles.
Condobolin Hospital will receive $225,000 to refurbish five patient bathrooms. This upgrade will make facilities more comfortable and welcoming for patients, and improve safety for patients as well as staff providing patient care.
The Tullamore Multipurpose Service will receive $235,000 to refurbish a two-bedroom unit to improve accommodation for key healthcare workers. This funding boost will help attract and retain healthcare staff by providing high-quality accommodation close to work.
WNSWLHD Executive Director Service Delivery Josh Carey said the upgrades will help to significantly improve patient experiences as they receive care, while also helping staff to provide that care and make the experience living and working in rural areas more attractive.
“In smaller, rural areas we often have healthcare staff working at facilities on a temporary basis. Providing safe, comfortable staff accommodation will help us attract temporary staff and encourage them to consider working permanently in our District," Mr Carey said.
“At Lightning Ridge, the outdoor area is going to be greatly improved with this funding. It will be transformed into a calming and peaceful space for patients with art from local community members a key feature of the planned works.”
“The upgrades at Condobolin Hospital will improve patient experiences and help staff who are assisting patients when they need to use bathroom facilities by ensuring they have an improved and safe environment to provide that support."
