Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) is delighted to announce the recipients of its 2024 Excellence in Allied Health Awards, who were recognised at a ceremony in Orange on Thursday, 31 October.
This annual event acknowledges the passion, dedication and contributions that allied health professionals and their support staff provide to the communities across Western NSW.
Angela Firth, WNSWLHD Executive Director of Allied Health, said she was thrilled with the calibre of nominations received and it was a pleasure to be able to congratulate each recipient and those who were highly commended.
“It was a difficult task to select the winners of this year’s Excellence in Allied Health Awards with so many wonderful nominations, but that’s a great problem to have and I’d like to sincerely congratulate all the recipients,” Ms Firth said.
“As always, this event gives us a chance to come together as colleagues from across the Local Health District to celebrate the work and accomplishments of our amazing allied health professionals. It’s an event I really enjoy each year.
“2024 the fourth year that the Awards will also be held by NSW Health and the recipients from our local categories will be put forward as nominees for the NSW Excellence in Allied Health Awards.”
WNSWLHD’s 2024 Excellence in Allied Health Award winners include:
Allied Health Professional of the Year: Sarah McBurney (Occupational Therapist, Virtual Allied Health Service)
Aboriginal Allied Health Professional of the Year: Kali Morgan (Senior Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician/Welfare, Bloomfield)
Early Career Allied Health Professional of the Year: Daniel Lowe (Radiation Therapist, Western Cancer Centre, Dubbo)
Allied Health Researcher of the Year: Kristie Sweeney (Radiographer/Sonographer, Bathurst Health Service)
Allied Health Leader of the Year: Catherine Osborne (Radiation Therapist, Western Cancer Centre, Dubbo)
Allied Health Educator of the Year: Asta Fung (Speech Pathologist, Orange Health Service)
Allied Health Assistant/Technician of the Year: Alan Lloyd (Allied Health Assistant, Dubbo Health Service)
Ms Firth said the event celebrated the efforts of these exceptional staff but was also an opportunity to recognise the achievements and dedication of the entire allied health workforce.
“We have more than 600 allied health staff in our District and they work incredibly hard to deliver essential services in our hospitals, health centres and in community settings, including dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, psychology, radiation therapy, social work and more,” Ms Firth said.
“Our allied health staff offer many of these services both face-to-face and virtually and also play an important role in promoting health and wellbeing to our communities.”
