You should update and review your Will throughout your lifetime
NSW Trustee and Guardian recommend you update and review your Will throughout your life as having an outdated Will can have unintended consequences.
You will need to review your Will if there is a major change in your family or financial circumstances. For example, if you marry, divorce, have children or grandchildren or acquire new assets, like purchasing a property, these changes will only be taken into account if your Will is updated.
Even if your circumstances haven’t changed, we recommend you review your Will roughly every 5 years to take into account changes in the law and your circumstances.
Contact the solicitor who made your Will for a review, or, if you are a customer of NSW Trustee and Guardian, we encourage you to reach out every 5 years to perform a review of your Will together.
