“Albury is quite a large regional city, and while I was studying enrolled nursing at Wodonga TAFE I completed my placements at Corowa, Albury and Cootamundra,” she said.
“I suppose Coota charmed me in more ways than one, because it was not long before I relocated there for love, to be with my future husband.”
Now a Registered Nurse with 13 years’ experience, and a practicing midwife, Bianca was recently nominated as a finalist in the 2023 MLHD Excellence awards in the category, Midwife of the year.
“It was a lovely surprise and also very humbling to be chosen as a finalist,” Bianca said.
“I am always keen to learn new things and never want to lose that. I studied to become a midwife 5 years ago, and I am enjoying the more personal relationships we can build with our women during such an important and sometimes vulnerable time in their lives,” she said.
“Working in a smaller regional town allows us to deliver care that is unique, personal and professional.
“We know all our women, and they know and trust us because we are managing their care both pre and post-natally, which is special.
“I love the variety in my role, I’m never just stuck on a ward day in, day out, but have the opportunity to really experience and be exposed to so much more.”
Bianca said the team at Cootamundra Hospital is dedicated and has a wide breadth of skills that are beneficial to the community.
“Some days are more relaxed than others, but every day brings with it a new challenge and a new opportunity for our nurses to demonstrate their professional skills and shine in their roles,” she said
“We really do foster educational opportunities for our nurses, and career progression is there for you if that is what you are seeking, but without all the hassles of city life.
“It is definitely worth establishing yourself in a regional area like Coota, there are so many opportunities here and the community really does look out for each other.”
Bianca said living and working in a smaller regional town allows people to actively participate and enjoy their family and friends.
“There is time here to enjoy your career, but more importantly there is time to be with your family and friends, where you can actively participate in what is going on around you and really enjoy the opportunity to make memories to last your family a lifetime,” she said.
