The Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) will continue to support low-cost aqua exercise classes in Lockhart this summer.
The classes will run on Tuesdays from 2pm. Participants are asked to bring a gold coin each session, along with a foam pool noodle (if they have one), sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water.
Trained volunteer leader, Larraine Hoffman started running aqua exercise classes in Lockhart last year and is excited for the season to start again. “Everyone is welcome to come and join in, the class is for all ages. We always have a great time and a good laugh!” Larraine said.
“People don’t need to be able to swim to join this class and everyone can work at their own pace and fitness level. People joining the class should bring a foam pool noodle if they have one, also sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water,” she said.
“Exercising in the water provides all the benefits of regular exercise, however, as the body is supported by water, there’s less risk of muscle or joint injury during the exercises,” said Catherine Pratt, Health Promotion Officer with MLHD.
“Participants can achieve a greater range of motion in water and become fitter faster. It is easy and fun to learn. It can be beneficial for all including people with arthritis, back pain, balance and joint problems and for those who’ve had joint replacements,” said Catherine.
The Aqua Fitness class will start on 15 November 2022. Anyone interested in joining the can contact Larraine Hoffman on 0427 204 051.
