The reserve is located adjacent to the intersection of Oxley Street and The Parkway and is a
waterplay and natural park precinct. The word "Billabong" in the name describes the body of water
at the centre of the parklands, which is the main attraction for the space. The GNB is aware the
name is already in use for the area.
As a result of the new parkland the extent of the existing name, Bradbury Park, will be amended to
apply to the area around Bradbury Oval. The unofficial name Apex Park is displayed for this site on
some mapping products and will be removed.
GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name. Suggestions for
alternative names is not being sought at this time.
Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s
website.
Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346
Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.
The closing date for submissions is 1 Septemer 2024.
Quotes to be attributed to NSW Surveyor-General Narelle Underwood:
“Names are not just labels; they tell the stories of their community, and it is important that they
reflect the character and history of the local area.”
“Community consultation on the proposed names is an important step to make sure everyone has an
opportunity to provide their feedback and ensures that each voice has a chance to contribute.”
