About
The Far West Extended Nursing Placement Program (ENPP) is a collaboration between the Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) directorate of nursing and midwifery, the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) School of Nursing, Western Sydney University (WSU) School of Nursing and Midwifery, the University of Sydney (USYD) Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery and Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (BHUDRH).
ENPP aims
The ENPP aims to:
a) Enhance theoretical and practice knowledge through an extended 20-week rural and remote placement experience.
b) Support participating nursing students to gain work readiness attributes and enhance their future employability outcomes.
c) Support students to align nursing theory and practice to the contemporary health needs and expectations of rural Australian communities.
Proposed host sites
Far west placements may include:
- Community Specialist Palliative Care Service
- Community Mental Health
- Chronic Disease Program
- The Primary Health Care Registered Nurses Schools Based Program, Broken Hill Base Hospital and Aboriginal Health including Maari Ma.
- Wilcannia; Menindee; Royal Flying Doctors Service (SE division)
Southwest placements may include:
- Robinvale District Health Services and Sunraysia Community Health Services.
- FWLHD Buronga HealthOne.
- Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation and Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative, which are Aboriginal community controlled services.
We will work closely with students to ensure host sites allocated to students align with their core or elective units of study and their areas of interest for future career aspirations. However, primary and secondary host sites have limited placement capacity so all students may not be able to be allocated to a placement preference.
