Our commitment to safety and respect at work
The NSW Government is committed to fostering safer and more respectful workplaces in NSW.
SafeWork NSW is the first Australian work health and safety regulator to establish a dedicated team focused on addressing gender-based harmful workplace behaviours. The Respect at Work team was established in response to the landmark Australian Human Rights Commission’s 2020 Respect@Work Report.
The Taskforce is leading the implementation of a four-year strategy to prevent harmful, gender-based behaviours across NSW workplaces, with an initial focus on sexual harassment.
This includes educating NSW businesses on their duties to prevent and respond to workplace sexual harassment before it occurs and taking appropriate enforcement action to protect workers.
Respect at Work Advisory Group
SafeWork NSW chairs the Respect at Work Advisory Group, established in 2023 to provide advice, support and feedback to the SafeWork NSW Respect at Work team and other government agencies.
The group works to share information, research and best practice to ensure effective action against workplace gender-based harmful behaviours including sexual harassment, and promotes cross-sector collaboration.
