Your licence or certificate allows you to do and/or supervise the work described on your licence card, subject to any specified conditions.
These conditions may be imposed to limit the scope of work you are able to do or place other requirements on the licence or certificate holder.
Conditions may be imposed because of:
- mutual recognition processes
- disciplinary action
- bankruptcy
- external administration
- other factors.
Note:
If your circumstances change and you wish for the conditions to be removed or modified, you will need to lodge an application.
Licence conditions imposed for building categories for Home Building Compensation Fund requirements
We recognise that new applicants for building work category licences will not generally hold current insurance under the Home Building Compensation Fund or a certificate of eligibility to obtain such insurance from an approved insurer.
In this case, new licences will be conditioned “Only For Contracts Not Requiring Insurance Under The Home Building Compensation Fund”.
This condition will be displayed on the public register. Licence holders with this condition can only contract for work up to $20,000.
The condition will be removed once Building Commission NSW is advised by the licensee or insurer that insurance or eligibility for insurance has been granted.
You are not required to lodge an application to change your licence conditions if the only condition is “Only For Contracts Not Requiring Insurance Under The Home Building Compensation Fund”.
Information on this insurance is available at Home building compensation cover – SIRA.
