Mariam Mourad
Mariam is the CEO of Bankstown Women's Health Centre and Fairfield Women's Health Service. She has extensive experience working with a range of communities, including migrant women and women who have experienced DFV.
Mariam has over 30 years of experience working in women’s health, with a particular focus on women’s safety and domestic and family violence.
As the CEO of Bankstown Women’s Health Centre and the Fairfield Women’s Health Service, she is responsible for delivering a range of services to women including counselling, domestic violence support, case management advocacy, early intervention and prevention, health promotion, women’s cancer screening, dietary services, and health and wellbeing programs such as yoga, healthy lifestyles and parenting.
Prior to her current role, Mariam spent time as a case manager and domestic violence outreach worker. More broadly, she has extensive knowledge of the challenges faced by women and is an advocate across a wide range of communities.
Mariam has lived experience as a migrant to Australia and works with women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities across Southwest Sydney by helping them to navigate the system and connect with outreach services.
Mariam works closely with key people in her local community, including the police, domestic violence teams, politicians, councils and Aboriginal elders. Mariam’s work enables her to facilitate consultation between individuals and community organisations.
In advocating for women’s wellbeing and economic advancement, Mariam has worked as part of the ASU Women’s Sub Division campaign for national paid domestic violence leave for its members; been involved with the Women of Colour Australia executive leadership program; and contributed to the implementation of the NSW Government’s Safer Pathways reforms and the Coercive Control Act 2022.
In 2016, Mariam was named on the NSW Local Women of the Year Honour Roll.
