Introduction
Governments can get a lot of benefits from the data collected by smart places.
As the NSW Government delivers on the Smart Places Strategy, government will generate large volumes of near- and real-time data.
This project is creating tools to help government handle this data better. These tools will connect real-time data to the NSW Spatial Digital Twin (Live.NSW). The government can then see how useful the data is for designing, building and maintaining smart places.
Challenge
The value of these data assets will only be fully realised if we consider potential uses for the datasets and make the data accessible to a broad group of stakeholders.
Solution
This project will deliver tools for government to better manage data in the context of smart places. It will include a framework and methodology, as well as a tool to measure the benefits, structure and value of the data.
This project will identify and integrate key data assets into the NSW Spatial Digital Twin. These data assets will be used to illustrate the integral value data has in designing, implementing and maintaining smart places.
The NSW Treasury, Data Analytics Centre and teams that manage assets at all levels of government, will be able to use these tools. This can speed up investments in collecting data and ongoing maintenance.
Expected outcomes
Smart Places outcome areas:
- skills, jobs and development
- collaboration and connection.
The project will allow government to make better, evidence-based decisions. This will improve the productivity, livability and resilience of our cities, towns and communities.
The tools will also be able to be used to inform the development of smart places business case proposals, reducing cost and effort in identifying the benefits of better data management.
Data may then be used to expand digital services and deliver a connected citizen experience, making smart cities a more attractive place for residents to live.
