The $64 million Riparian Stabilisation Package will support the repair, restoration and regeneration of priority riparian and estuarine areas significantly affected by flooding from February 2022 onwards (AGRN 1012).
The package will target areas that are most flood-impacted and will use scientific prioritisation processes to focus works where they are needed most.
Regeneration of these priority areas will help to reduce the impact future floods have on residents, property and the environment.
The Riparian Stabilisation Package will be administered by the Department of Regional NSW working in partnership with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI), Local Land Services (LLS) and NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
The Riparian Stabilisation Package will be delivered through three programs:
- $29 million Estuarine Asset Protection Program (DPI) – to deliver riparian recovery and resilience projects with a focus on reducing future flood damage in critical NSW estuarine catchments.
- $30 million Riverbank Rehabilitation Program(LLS) – to assist longer-term rehabilitation and future-proofing of flood damaged riverbanks through targeted on-ground works.
- $5 million Water Quality Monitoring Program (EPA) – to provide coordinated water quality monitoring programs to assist communities make evidence-based decisions on matters affecting waterways impacted by floods.
