On 27 January 2017, the NSW and Queensland premiers announced the signing of the NSW–Queensland Statement of Principles and Priorities for Cross-Border Collaboration 2016–19. This agreement identifies four key priority areas:
- regional economic development
- aligning services and sharing information
- local transport
- issues of national significance.
Under the four priority areas for action were 85 diverse projects in 2018/19, addressing issues such as bus and taxi services, delivering more effective training through collaborative planning and delivery, joint advocacy for major infrastructure, the protection of children through better information sharing, and more effective integration of health systems.
