Healing for Aboriginal people in NSW

Aboriginal Affairs NSW collaborates with Aboriginal Communities to promote healing and wellbeing. We acknowledge the impact of past injustices, and effects of intergenerational trauma.

Intergenerational trauma and healing

Many previous government policies and programs contributed to trauma felt by many Aboriginal people.

This included the loss of land and culture, and the forced removal of children from their families.

This 'trauma' can be passed down from one generation to the next.

This is known as intergenerational trauma.

At NSW Aboriginal Affairs we're committed to working with Aboriginal communities to advance dialogue about this and Aboriginal cultural perspectives on healing.
