The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Camden Council to name a reserve in the locality of Grasmere as Ferguson Reserve.
Ferguson Reserve is proposed for a reserve located adjacent to Ferguson Lane and the Nepean River in Grasmere. The proposed name commemorates Robert ‘Bruce’ Ferguson OAM (11/5/1916 –27/4/2008) for his many years of service to the community of Camden.
Mr Ferguson enlisted and served as a Lieutenant in World War II and was an elected alderman on Camden Council for over 20 years and its mayor for many terms. As mayor he was instrumental in the establishment of the Camden Museum with the assistance of Camden Council. In 1984 Mr Ferguson received a Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of service to the community and to local government.
