General rules for bicycle riders

When riding a bike on roads and public paths in NSW, you need to follow the same road rules as other vehicles.

These rules apply regardless of the type of bike you are riding, including permitted e-bikes (bikes that have an electric motor and battery).

Special road rules for bicycle riders

In addition to following the general road rules, there are special road rules you must follow when you ride a bike.

Choosing a legal e-bike

There are only two kinds of e-bikes that can be legally ridden on NSW roads and on public paths. You must ensure your e-bike is road legal before riding it.
