Renewing your licence
There’s no upper age limit for renewing your licence in NSW.
You need to sit a medical assessment and driving or riding assessment to keep your licence after a certain age.
What you need to do depends on your age, the type of licence you have, and medical recommendations.
Older driver licensing is about balancing a need for independence and mobility with community and road user safety. As we age, changes in our health can affect our driving ability. Try to keep on top of these changes to continue driving safely. You may wish to consider modifying your driving routines or retiring from driving.

Use this checklist to work out what you need to renew your licence from age 70.
Find out when to visit a doctor for a medical assessment for fitness to drive and when to book an Older driver or rider assessment.
Book the assessments before your birthday. For example, just before your 75th birthday, you need to arrange a medical assessment to renew a licence at age 75.
If you can't, contact Service NSW as soon as possible.

Modified licence
You can choose to get a modified licence rather than keep your unrestricted licence.
If you choose a modified licence, you don't need to do an older driver or rider test unless your doctor recommends it.
A modified licence restricts you to driving certain distances within your local area. This helps you to continue to access services and maintain independence. You should discuss this option with your doctor or Service NSW who can help you work out ways to keep you safe on the road.

Note that a modified licence is not the same as a licence with conditions added. If your doctor recommends conditions are added to your licence, you must follow the advice.
