Learner driving log book apps
Worried about losing your log book? Use the approved Roundtrip log book app to record 120 hours of driving practice.
Getting started
Transport for NSW has moved to a single log book app model with Roundtrip being the only official app accepted.
If you are a new learner driver, please use the Roundtrip app.
Download the latest version for Apple iOS and Android phones.
If you are an existing user of the Licence Ready or L2P apps, please refer to the information below regarding important changes impacting the use of these apps.
Important Information for Learner Drivers with hours logged in the Licence Ready App
Licence Ready ceased to be accepted by Transport for NSW as an official app for submitting learner driver hours on 29 June 2024.
If you were previously using Licence Ready to log your hours, you will now need to transfer your hours to a paper log book available from Service NSW.
To Transfer your hours to a paper log book follow these steps:
- Visit a Service NSW Centre with your NSW Driver Licence and the paper log book you were originally issued. A replacement paper log book can be issued at no fee only if you no longer have one.
Please note: Your NSW Driver Licence number is the identifier Service NSW will use to match your hours logged in the Licence Ready App. If you did not enter your NSW Driver Licence in the Licence Ready app or entered an incorrect number, Service NSW will not be able to retrieve your recorded hours or transfer these to your paper logbook.
- If Service NSW Centre staff can retrieve the driving hours you have logged in Licence Ready, they will then verify, record and sign off the total hours you have completed in the paper logbook as a bulk entry. You can then continue to log your additional hours in the paper log book.
Please note: If you are doing your driving test using hours logged in the Licence Ready App, please arrive at the Service Centre at least 1 hour prior to your driving test to retrieve and transfer your hours to a paper log book.

L2P ceased to be accepted by Transport for NSW as an official app for submitting learner log book hours on 29 February 2024.

Please note: Your NSW Driver Licence number is the identifier Service NSW will use to match your hours logged in the L2P App. If you did not enter your NSW Driver Licence in the Licence Ready app or entered an incorrect number, Service NSW will not be able to retrieve your recorded hours or transfer these to your paper logbook.
- If Service NSW Centre staff can retrieve the driving hours you have logged in L2P, they will verify, record and sign off the total hours you have completed in the paper logbook as a bulk entry. You can then continue to add your hours in the paper log book.
Please note: If you are doing your driving test using hours logged in the Licence Ready App, please arrive at the Service Centre at least 1 hour prior to your driving test to retrieve and transfer your hours to a paper log book.

How to use a log book app
Mobile phones in the car
The app lets you 'set and forget'. This means the app will record your drive in the background.
You must start the app while you're safely parked out of the line of traffic, then put your phone away while you're driving.
It is illegal for learner drivers to use a mobile phone while driving. This includes when stopped at traffic lights or stuck in traffic.
Find out the rules on mobile phone use.
When supervisors can use the app
The app does not need to be touched while a learner is driving. However, a supervisor can use the app while a learner is driving, if it doesn't distract the learner or stop the supervisor from guiding the learner.
Supervisors and passengers should limit phone use while they're in the car to avoid distracting the learner.
Switching from paper book to app
You can choose to switch from a paper log book to an app. However, you will have to manually log the completed log book entries into the app.
This includes:
- the date and time
- how long you drove
- supervisor or instructor details.
Your supervisor or instructor will need to confirm each entry.
Mobile reception
You won't need an internet connection to log driving hours. You will only need to log into the app to verify your licence details and your supervisor's licence details.
If a GPS signal is not available, your driving activity can continue and will still be recorded. It might mean that not all fields will be automatically filled (for example, the location might be missing). You can enter these details manually once you've finished driving.
Registering driver details in the app
When you download and register with a log book app, you'll need to enter a stock number and licence expiry date. The stock number is on the back of your licence card, in the top left corne
When you pass the Driver Knowledge Test, you may get a temporary paper licence to use until your licence card arrives in the mail. If you register with a log book app before you get your licence card, leave the stock number and expiry date fields blank. You can still record your practice drives in the app.
Once your licence card arrives, you can enter your stock number and licence expiry date into the app. You need to do this within 30 days of registering with the app.
Manual entries
The app may tell you that you shouldn't have more than 50% of manual entries. This is a recommendation only.
You can manually log as many hours as you'd like.
Losing or changing phones
All your settings and driving data are held on the app servers. If you get a new phone you can restore your driving information when you download the app and log in.
Your personal information
Your personal information is not shared with others unless you give explicit consent to the app, or, if the sharing of your personal information is permitted under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
The app will only give data to Transport for NSW to validate eligible learners and supervisors or as authorised under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
Please refer to the app's privacy statement for more information.
