The very popular Aquafit classes at the Young Aquatic Centre are continuing in 2023, with locals welcome to join the low cost aqua exercise classes.
Trained volunteer leader, Lenore Schiller has been running aqua exercise classes in Young for many years now along with supporting leaders Ann Sheehan, Peg Elliot and Julie Young.
“We are sad to be losing one of our leaders, Julie Young, who is retiring and moving from Young to be closer to family. Her happy personality will be missed by our group,” said Lenore.
“Ann, Peg and I continue to run the classes and we would love to invite everyone come and join in the fun. The class is targeted to people over 40 but can be for all ages. We always have a great time and a good laugh!”
Exercising in water provides all the benefits of regular exercise as the body is supported by water and there’s less risk of muscle or joint injury during the exercises. People don’t need to be able to swim to join this class and the experienced leaders will ensure that everyone can work at their own pace and fitness level.
“People joining the class should bring a foam pool noodle if they have one, also sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water. The excellent stairs into the pool make getting in and out of the pool comfortable and safe,” Lenore said.
The low-cost Aqua Exercise Classes are run through Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), who provide regular training as well as insurance to ensure the leaders are well qualified and competent.
MLHD Health Promotion Officer, Barb Manwaring said the Young Aquafit Group is an outstanding example of what can be achieved locally when you have great leaders and a commitment to supporting your communities.
Asthma and hayfever sufferers are reminded that they may be at greater risk of severe symptoms in spring due to high pollen counts and weather conditions.
