These clinics are for patients with a clinical condition related to the ear, nose or throat (ENT).
Referral information
Patients will need a referral from their doctor or GP (general practitioner) including details of their patient history, current medications and symptoms, addressed to one of our specialists.
Clinic services, specialists and hours
The following specialist services are available at the Nepean Hospital ENT surgical outpatient clinics.
Information
This clinic sees patients of all ages with any cancer of the head and neck, including:
- any neck masses or lumps
- thyroid, parathyroid, parotid or submandibular gland cancers
- skin cancers of the head and neck
- any cancers of the mouth, teeth, tongue, tonsil or throat.

Hours of service
This clinic is run monthly on a Thursday and Friday.
Information
We see people 18 years and older who live within our district and have any clinical condition of the nose or sinus suitable to be seen by a specialised ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon, including broken noses. We do not do plastic surgery.
Making an appointment
The patient will need a detailed referral from a GP, either as a letter or using our referral form, addressed to one of the following:

Information
This clinic is for any patient who lives in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD with a clinical condition related to the ear. This includes hearing loss, pain or discharge, perforated eardrum or foreign bodies.

Hours of service
This clinic is run monthly on a Monday and Wednesday.
Information
This clinic sees patients aged 18 years and older who live within Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, and who need an assessment of the nose and throat (nasendoscopy).
This can be for routine cancer surveillance, or a follow up after head or neck surgery to review and support the recovery of a person’s speech and swallowing.
SPLARY clinic
This speech pathology clinic sees patients with a laryngectomy who live in Nepean Blue Mountains LHD and who are not current patients of the Nepean Cancer Care Centre. Laryngectomy patients from outside the area may be able to access the service in limited circumstances.
SPENT clinic
This speech pathology clinic sees patients who live in Nepean Blue Mountains LHD and whose needs are related to ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery or head and neck surgery.
Patients need to be referred to this clinic by an ear nose and throat (ENT) or maxillofacial (maxfac) surgeon for dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) or trismus (‘lockjaw’). Any patient with dysphagia or trismus that is not related to ENT or head and neck surgery should be referred to the Speech Pathology Dysphagia clinic instead.
We also see head and neck surgery patients before and after certain operations, such as glossectomy (removal of part or all of the tongue) or tracheostomy (cut into the windpipe).
Patients from outside the area may be able to access the service in limited circumstances.
SPHN clinic (multidisciplinary team clinic)
This speech pathology clinic sees only patients who would qualify for the SPENT clinic (see above) but who need input from multidisciplinary teams.
ENTvoice clinic (multidisciplinary team clinic)
This speech pathology clinic sees patients who live in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD and need assessment of voice or swallowing through procedures known as nasendoscopy and stroboscopy or FEES (fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing).
Patients needing voice therapy should be referred to the SPvoice clinic.
Patients from outside the local area may be able to access the service once in limited circumstances.
