Salma Kareem
Salma Kareem has been volunteering since the age of 8. She volunteers at the Islamic Women's Welfare Association in Western Sydney, helping out with school holiday activities, fundraising dinners and packing food for the needy, as well as for Brothers in Need, dedicating time in the soup kitchen to prepare and distribute freshly cooked meals to the homeless.
In 2021, Salma opened her own business, @BrookieQueenbySusu. She bakes and sells ‘brookies’ (half brownie and half cookie) and donates 10% of all profits from her business to a different charity each month. Salma has raised over $6,000 for charities including Red Nose Day, Charity Right Australia, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Mahboba’s Promise, Gunawirra and Pink Stumps Day. In 2023, Salma raised over $800, donating all proceeds from the sale of her brookies to those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Recently, she raised over $600 from the sale of brookies for the Gaza Children's Fund to help children and widows in Gaza.
Salma is a role model for other young women in her community, encouraging them to volunteer and donate to charities by doing what they love.
