Regional Development Trust

The NSW Government has committed an initial investment of $400 million into the Regional Development Trust to deliver sustainable and strategic investment with a focus on priorities that make a real difference to regional communities.

The Regional Development Trust will be invested in regional and rural communities through 4 Key Focus Areas: 

  • Sustainable regional industries
  • Aboriginal economic development and enterprise
  • Community connection and capacity building
  • Improving regional service delivery.

The NSW Government is committed to ensuring the investment of public money through the Regional Development Trust is informed by the best available evidence and guided by a clear investment strategy and governance framework.

Investments

Airstrip improvements in rural and remote NSW

The $15 million investment will upgrade rural and remote airstrips to improve access for emergency services, health professionals and other essential services in some of the most remote parts of the state. Improvements could include airstrip surface upgrades, exclusion and safety fencing, lighting, and installation of fuel infrastructure.

Aboriginal Economic Development Package

The $5 million Aboriginal Economic Development Package will help Aboriginal businesses and organisations unlock the commercial potential of land and cultural assets and create Aboriginal employment opportunities by delivering on-country training and business development programs.

Engine and Emerging Industries Loan Pilot – Food & Beverage Manufacturing

The $5 million pilot program enabled small and medium enterprises in the food and beverage manufacturing sectors in regional NSW to apply for loans of between $100,000 and $1 million to increase productivity by adopting advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Western Air Services Subsidy

The $2 million extension of the Western Air Services Subsidy will enable the continuation of commercial flights servicing communities in Bourke, Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Cobar, providing residents, workers and industry with certainty about air service availability.

Western NSW Workforce Activation Package

The $10 million Western NSW Workforce Activation Package will assist eligible early childhood education and care providers in Bourke, Broken Hill, and Cobar to expand or upgrade their services or facilities, increasing local childcare availability and helping parents enter or return to the workforce.
